The Wasteland by Mordicai Knode.
Last night I finished up my NaNoWriMo, The Wasteland. In the end, with a colossal push, it came out to be 86,841 words, 163 typeset pages, 227 trade book pages. That is a hefty chunk of text, & I'm rather proud of myself. I am pretty pleased with the result-- it isn't just logorrhoea, but rather a story, a novel. I even had a few moments of "writer's magic" while writing it-- for instance, right at the end, something occurred to me that was obvious, but that I hadn't seen before. I had written in all the pieces of the puzzle, but it wasn't until I actually wrote the ending that it came together in my head. Oh! How could I have missed it? But I had. The first part of the book is detail oriented, but the rest of it is pretty action packed-- Jenny teases me that I like boring things & that I prefer stories where nothing happens, which may be true, but I challenge her to say that when she's done reading thing one! The plot follows the protagonist of Watchtower Gothic, now an adult Citizen in the utopian Unity, but I think The Wasteland owes a spiritual debt to Wil O' Wisps & Other Illuminated Manuscripts as well. I've put The Wasteland up on Lulu, as usual, setting the price to the at-cost price of the novel-- the hard copy is $9.04 & the download is free. It would flatter me if you read it!
