Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? by Mindy Kaling.

Mindy Kaling is right. It does take me forever to put my shoes on. I don't know why, but I counter her question in the eponymous essay "Why Do Men Put On Their Shoes So Slowly?" with a question of my own: how do women put on their shoes so fast? Don't you even bother to lace them up tight? What if you need to deal with a sudden velociraptor attack? Questions. You might be asking yourself, "isn't Mindy Kaling a little bit young to be writing an autobiography?" to which I answer "what, settle down, she's a professional writer who wrote a funnybook, why are acting like this is her Mein Kampf?" This isn't some pretentious meditation on the art of being a writer or the struggle of being an immigrant's kid; it is a book of humorous anecdotes & musings. The end. Some of them are autobiographical, in the way that jokes often mine a person's life, but this isn't a saga of bildungsroman. This book was, by the way, Sherene's pick for the Eleven-Books Club. I don't know what to tell you, I like Mindy Kaling. She lived in Windsor Terrace & wants to complain about the G train; she's my kind of people. She has a whole bit glorifying the "Irish Exit," where you duck out of a party without saying goodbye. Hey, I do that! She writes a paean to how stories don't have to end with marriage, which is a personal pet peeve of mine (witness Peter Parker & Mary Jane Watson selling their True Love™ to the Devil) & she has multiple bits on how Amy Poehler is the best person ever (see pages 130, 136 & 185, especially). Which confirms my suspicions that Amy Poehler is the best person ever. & for the record, I would see the following movies in the theater: King Tut versus King Kong, Fat Astronaut, Darling (Peter Pan from the point of view of the Darling family's alcoholic dad). & I would see the following movies on DVD: Crest Whitestripes, Sharks versus Volcanoes. Just a sort of FYI. Also, I would like to note that this Gorey picture is Mindy Kaling's Twitter background:
