lords of tsámra by m.a.r. barker.

the first of m.a.r. barker's tékumel novels, the man of gold, really suffers in comparison to each new one i read. he starts off with the change versus order conceit, with the baggage that entails; that is to say, the unspoken assumption that order is "good" & change is "bad." the next two novels then go on to star devotees of two of the gods of the pantheon of change. good for him! this novel gets pretty jack vance by the end, but not to it's detriment, & he's now set novels in three of the five empires. frankly, i think this guy is a real gem & i'm happy to fill in the gaps in my knowledge regarding him.
